Growth Tip #17: The Surprise First, Ask Second Guest Post

By Pete Rakozy

Growth Tips

You can either grow by acquiring one customer at a time, or a whole bunch at once.

The second option is a great way to grow as it takes just a little bit more time and resources to close 10, 20, 1000, or more new customers. One method for building a ‘one-to-many’ relationship is by guest posting on another person’s blog.

Why would someone want a guest post? They need content. More specifically, they need amazing content to keep their audience coming back for more. They need to provide value to their audience, and coming up with great amazing content all the time is hard.

One way to go about starting the relationship is to write about a topic your target blog owner is passionate about and include their name or links to their resources. Then let them know.

Your goal is to build a relationship with a person who already has an audience of your ideal customers. Your focus with the guest post is to help them out, build a relationship, and then eventually get promoted to their audience who in turn buy from you.

As a bonus, you’ll make a friend who will not only help you get more customers, but if you choose wisely, will also help you grow in both in business and your personal life.

Not a bad return for writing a simple blog post for another company/influencer.

How to execute this growth tip

1.

Make a list of potential blogs you'd like to be featured on. Use a tool like BuzzSumo to find the first and second most popular blogs. These should be blogs related to your industry and something you can write about intelligently. If you're struggling to find people, hire it out to Fiverr and have someone create a list of influencers for you.

2.

Review the blog post published recently on these blogs and jot down some of the topics covered, how they write, and anything else that's interesting. You want to create content that's similar to what readers of that blog are already reading. Come up with 5-10 topic ideas and then narrow it down to your top 2-3.

3.

Write a post for your own blog and mention the company, site, and person you want to work with in the body of the text. Then shoot off an email to the contact you want to connect with and share the post with them. Mention you'd like to guest post for them and see if they accept.
