Growth Tip #4: The HARO Brand Buzz Boost

By Pete Rakozy

Growth Tips

Every business needs awareness. Whether a start up or mega corp, if people don’t know about you, they can’t buy.

But building awareness doesn’t have to be expensive. One of the best ways to build buzz around your business is to help others out in exchange for a shout out.

HARO (Help A Report Out) is a great service that allows you to connect with reporters and bloggers who need sources, quotes, expert opinions, and more for the stories they write. They get industry expert input and you get a link to your site and free promotion for your business. And if you help out enough, reporters will consider you a go-to source for your industry.

How to execute this growth tip

SUPER simple. Just sign up for helpareporter.com. The free account sends new reporter queries to your inbox a few times each day based on your categories and industries. Paid accounts get you more features like keyword target, etc., but don't waste your time. Establish a reputation on the free account then upgrade when it makes sense.

Every day check those emails for opportunities to leverage yourself as an industry expert and influencer. At first, answer all that you can. Then start using tools to help you check if the website your quote will be shared on is reputable with enough traffic to make it worth your effort. Tools like SEMRush, Buzzsumo, and Google Trends can help with this.

One you've picked a HARO query, respond with your input, short bio, and a link to your website. Rinse and repeat.
